Should there be mandatory sentencing for anyone who assaults a member of the Gardai?
The Garda Representative Association is calling for the introduction of a mandatory minimum sentence of at least one year in prison for anyone convicted of assaulting any frontline emergency workers.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has confirmed that more than 630 Gardai were injured on duty in 2015 and five have been killed in ten years.
However many of our callers were not in agreement with Minister Fitzgerald especially one mother who told us of her 13 year old son who was arrested allegedly “being cheeky to a Garda”.
Do you have faith in the Gardai and should there be mandatory sentencing for anyone who assaults a member of the Gardai?
