Should the Bus Eireann drivers that strike lose their jobs?

Dublin Bus and Irish Rail workers are to vote on a “sympathy” strike in support of the walkout at Bus Eireann.

The threatened escalation in transport upheaval was revealed shortly after Bus Eireann bosses said they could not sign off on their accounts as a result of its ongoing financial crisis.

The bosses warned that a voluntary redundancy scheme – which was expected to shed around 300 jobs – could not be funded without a financial plan in place.

But trade union Siptu responded that strike action could now spread to Dublin Bus and Irish Rail.

At a meeting in Dublin’s Liberty Hall, its representatives agreed to ballot members in other State transport companies on a possible escalation hitting the capital’s bus network and country-wide rail links.

A listener got in contact with us and said – “All of these people should be sacked for their ridiculous strike. The company is making losses and clearly they need to do something to stop the company from going bust. We need to get rid of unions in this country because all they do is cause problem and tell the drivers to throw their toys out of the pram until they get what they want. Life doesn’t work that way and they should be sacked for acting like toddlers.”

Do you agree with the listener who said the bus drivers striking should lose their jobs?
